Nyungwe National Park – Known for Primate Safaris in Rwanda. The park is located in the Southern province of Rwanda close to the Burundi border and is known for hosting 13 species of primates including the Chimpanzees in the Cyamudongo forest – a section of the greater Nyungwe natural forest. Nyungwe Forest is among the oldest rainforests in Central Africa. With a large expanse of forests covering 1,019 square Kilometres, bamboo forests and wetlands can be seen on a tour to Nyungwe. Close to 1100 plant species and 345 bird species have been recorded here. The black and white colobus, the L’hoest are found in this exceptional Landscape.

Nyungwe Chimp tracking

Nyungwe National Park is one of the largest Parks that boosts tourism in Rwanda. The park is well known for chimp tracking. It hosts two habituated families, of which one of the group has 60 individuals in the Cyamudongo forest. The canopy walk, an elevation above the forest, gives you a view of the canopy trees the forest hosts. The Albertine Rift Valley forest, besides the amazing landscape, is known for endemic species of Fauna and flora. About 85 species of mammals are found in Nyungwe.

Nyungwe National Park contains 13 primate species, making up 25% of Africa’s total. Some of the primates include;
